Upgrading from FileMaker 9, 8.5, or 8

When you upgrade from FileMaker 9, 8.5 or 8 today, you'll get up to three versions' worth of new and improved features because you'll get all the new features in FileMaker 10 plus all the features of FileMaker Pro 9 and 8.5. See the Version Comparison Chart.

Upgrading takes just a few minutes, because database formats haven't changed from FileMaker Pro 7. So you'll just install the FileMaker software, and then open your existing database without changing a thing. Upgrading from FileMaker 7 or earlier versions

If you are using FileMaker 7, 6, 5.5, 5.0, 4.1, 4.0 or earlier versions, you could be getting so much more done in so much less time with FileMaker Pro 10. See the Version Comparison Chart. Licensed users of FileMaker 7 and earlier versions are not eligible for the upgrade price and must pay full price. FileMaker does not offer technical support for FileMaker 7 or earlier versions. Once you have installed FileMaker 10, please read Converting FileMaker Databases from Previous Versions to determine if you are converting simple solutions or more advanced solutions.

Education Pricing Eligibility

Am I eligible for education pricing?

FileMaker, Inc. offers qualified education institutions, organizations, and end users the opportunity to purchase education versions of FileMaker products for administrative or educational instruction purposes. Education versions of FileMaker products cannot be used for any commercial purpose. A commercial purpose is any revenue-generating activity beyond the usual and customary activities educational institutions engage in. Please note that education programs and prices are subject to change without notice. Education institutions and organizations must meet at least one of the following criteria to qualify:

  1. Accredited public or private universities, colleges, and community colleges that grant degrees requiring at least two years of full-time matriculation*
  2. Accredited public and private K-12 Institutions including Charter and Virtual Schools*
  3. Hospitals, libraries, research laboratories, and museums wholly-owned and operated by the schools above
  4. State Departments of Education, administrative offices, boards of education, and county offices of education
  5. Home schools approved by FileMaker at its sole discretion

Education institutions with technology purchasing services, such as statewide purchasing entities and Education Service Agencies (ESAs) may qualify for additional discounts as part of a Master Volume License Agreement.

* Either institutionally accredited by an accrediting agency nationally recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or, recognized by the Department of Education of the State in which it is located. Students are eligible for education pricing only if they attend an accredited school described above, and provided that the software is only used by the student.

Which institutions do not qualify as an education institution or organization?

The following institutions or organizations do not qualify:

  1. Non-accredited schools
  2. Federal, state, and local government organizations
  3. Military academies that do not offer an academic degree
  4. Students are eligible for education pricing only if they attend an accredited school described above, and provided that the software is only used by the student.
  5. Nonprofit lobbyist groups
  6. Use of the license for any commercial purpose

Non-Profit Pricing Eligibility

FileMaker offers Non-Profit pricing through Volume Licensing only. Non-profit organizations with current proof of 501(c)3 non-profit status are eligible to purchase under the Non-Profit Volume License Agreement (NPVLA). Universal Applications

FileMaker Pro 10, FileMaker Pro 10 Advanced, FileMaker Server 10, and FileMaker Server 10 Advanced are Universal applications. FileMaker will allow customers to use both a Mac and Windows version of FileMaker Pro and FileMaker Pro Advanced on a single Intel-based Mac computer running Boot Camp even though the customer only has a single license to use FileMaker Pro.

This applies only to Intel-based Macs running dual boot Windows & Mac. It does not change any of our other restrictions.

For example:

  1. If you have a Windows machine with dual boot capability (to boot into several copies of Windows) you would require multiple licenses of FileMaker Pro.
  2. If you have a single FileMaker database you want to access from two Windows Machines, you would require two licenses of FileMaker Pro
  3. If you have a single FileMaker database hosted on a desktop machine and you want to access from a laptop machine, you would require two licenses of FileMaker Pro
  4. If you have a single Windows or Mac machine running virtualization software and you want to run two licenses concurrently on the same machine in two virtual partitions, you would require two licenses FileMaker Pro.

Support

All single license products and Volume Licensing orders include help with installation, launch, or reinstallation (not including data recovery) when your hardware configuration meets the minimum system requirements for the software.

For questions involving the use of a feature in a FileMaker, Inc. product, select a support package to fit your need. Volume license customers receive a 20% discount on Annual Priority Support when it is purchased on the same order as your licenses.

Downgrades

FileMaker gives all customers the right to purchase licenses of FileMaker Pro 10but install an earlier version of FileMaker.

Example #1:

You've purchased 15 FileMaker Pro 10 New (not upgrade) licenses and previously purchased 25 FileMaker Pro 9 licenses. You can install up to 40 licenses of FileMaker Pro - 15 licenses of FileMaker Pro 10 and 25 licenses of FileMaker Pro 9, OR 40 licenses of FileMaker Pro 9, OR any combination of FileMaker Pro 10 licenses (not to exceed 15) and FileMaker Pro 9 licenses.

Example #2:

You've purchased 15 FileMaker Pro 10 Upgrade licenses and previously purchased 25 FileMaker Pro 9 licenses. You can install up to 25 copies of FileMaker Pro of which only 15 can be FileMaker Pro 10.

Licensed users of FileMaker 10 may purchase a copy of the FileMaker 7, 8 and 8.5 media disks.

Volume Licensing

Volume licensing is a great way to save money when you are purchasing 10 or more units. Also, when you buy a Site License Agreement or 5 or more licenses as part of a Volume License Agreement, you automatically receive 1 year of Maintenance with your purchase. This license does not extend to students who reside at a separate on-campus location or to business or commercial users.
